Week 37 of Pregnancy

You are entering a period where your baby is almost fully developed, and the umbilical cord begins transferring antibodies to your fetus to prepare for birth. With the accumulation of antibodies, the fetus becomes better prepared to face diseases and germs outside the womb. The senses of the fetus are also spending more time strengthening their skills. They can hear and recognize your voice. When they are born, they will turn their head towards you upon hearing your voice. Along with hearing, their vision improves daily. Their fingers also become more coordinated. They can grasp their face or toes, and after birth, they will be able to grasp your finger.

Tests and Monitoring in Week 37

At this stage, medical monitoring and lifestyle care remain crucial. Below are the most important checks and recommendations for this period:

Group B Streptococcus (GBS) Test: If not done by this week, your doctor may recommend this test to detect the presence of GBS bacteria.

Complete Blood Count (CBC): This test is performed to check for anemia, hemoglobin levels, hematocrit, and other parameters related to the mother's general health.

Urine Test: This test checks for protein in the urine and other signs of kidney issues or urinary infections. The presence of protein in the urine could indicate preeclampsia, which requires special care.

Additional Ultrasounds (if necessary): These are prescribed to assess fetal growth, amniotic fluid levels, and the position of the fetus to determine if the head is down or not.

Regular Blood Pressure Monitoring: Early detection of preeclampsia or gestational hypertension is very important. As in previous weeks, your doctor may ask you to track fetal movements and count them. They may also perform NST (Non-Stress Test) or BPP (Biophysical Profile) to ensure fetal health.

Lifestyle and Health Care Recommendations

Continue eating a balanced diet rich in nutrients, with special attention to sufficient iron and calcium intake. Also, make sure to drink enough water to stay hydrated.

Engage in light physical activities like walking or swimming, provided your doctor has not set any restrictions.

Prioritize getting enough sleep and rest. Pregnancy pillows can be helpful for more comfortable sleep.

Maintaining a positive mood and reducing stress and anxiety through relaxation techniques like meditation, yoga, and breathing exercises can help reduce stress.

Talk with friends, family, or a counselor if needed to maintain mental well-being. Preparing for childbirth can be stressful, so psychological support is important.

Complete preparations for childbirth, such as packing a hospital bag, reviewing your birth plan, and familiarizing yourself with the signs of labor onset.

Attend regular medical appointments and follow your doctor's advice and instructions. If you notice any unusual symptoms, contact your doctor immediately.

By following these guidelines, you can help maintain both your and your baby’s health and enjoy a healthy pregnancy during the final weeks.
